Cycling Groups ride 1st September 2020
On a beautiful morning, conditions were just right for cycling when 6 members met in the town centre car park. A risk assessment had been filled in and every member signed to say they had considered their our risk.
Our route was slightly longer than what we normally ride. Leaving Carterton via the Alvescot Road, we turned right at the fork road between Alvescot and Filkins. Immediately after this we turned right and made our way to Shilton and then on to where the road met the A361. It took a good few minutes before we were able to turn left (at least 30 cars turned into the Cotswold Wildlife Park). After approximately 1 mile on the A361 we turned left and rode across the old aerodrome. When we came to a cross road we continued straight over to ride through Broadwell. Next was a left turn which went across the old gated road/Calcroft Lane to Clanfield. Here we turned right and made our way to Blakes café. We were able to park our bicycles, socially distanced of course, and found seats and tables in the garden. Orders and payments were taken at our tables. Unfortunately I was a bit slow taking the photograph and all that was left to show was empty cups and plates. Suitably refreshed we made our way back to Carterton via Alvescot. A super morning with sunshine and good company. We all tried to guess how far we had ridden, so in the afternoon I drove round the route and found it was 16 miles.
Our next ride will be on Tuesday 6th October at 0930 from the normal car park. Pam
