Gardening Group dates
WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 27th .Last year we had to cancel this visit because of the snow so lets hope we get better weather this year to look at these gardens. The gardens are Hollyhock Gardens near Islip, post code OX5 2SQ. we hope to see snowdrops here but the garden owner tells me the snow drops are early this year but even if they are coming to an end there is a very good display of hellebores amongst other spring plants. The visit includes tea and cake and will cost £5.We are due to meet there at 2pm so you can either go alone or meet up at the usual car park for lift sharing at 1.15pm. Parking is in the farmyard by the gardens.I will be sending our host numbers a couple of weeks prior to our visit so if you could let me know if you are attending as soon as you can that would be appreciated.
WEDNESDAY MARCH 27th.I am waiting for confirmation on this visit but if it happens it will be brilliant.I have contacted the Fosseway garden centre near Moreton in the Marsh GL56 0DS and they are arranging for a rep. from David Austin Roses to come and give us a talk. This will be a talk with slide show followed by tea and cake for £5. There will also be money off selected roses and possible goody bags. If this happens fossway are giving us priority tickets and once we have confirmed numbers they will open to public. The talk will start at 3pm leaving plenty of time if anyone wishes to have lunch there first. I will make travel arrangements when this date has been confirmed.I have attended a talk like this at Bampton and it was extremely good. It would be helpful if I knew who was interested in going so I can give the centre provisional numbers when they confirm.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 24th. This month it is a return visit to the Generous gardener at the coach house Ampney Crusis GL7 5RY. We went here on a very hot day in June 2017. It is a wonderful garden separated into rooms by hedging and cotswold stone walls. Our host offers refreshment after our visit. I have yet to confirm the price for this but if I remember properly last time it was £7.50 and well worth it. The house is next to the village church and this was open so we visited this as well and it was a very interesting church. Hopefully it will be open for us this time as well.
WEDNESDAY MAY 29th. Another repeat visit to Chivel Gardens nr Heythrop OX7 5TR. We went here in August 2018 and all of us agreed it was the best garden we had been to with the garden club, high praise. The colours were wonderful and I am sure the spring garden will be as wonderful. Our hosts look forward to seeing us again and providing the tea and biscuits we had last time. For those who didn’t make it last time, make sure you do this time!
MONDAY JUNE 17th. Please note the different day this month as we are joining up with the History group. Christine is organising a visit to Ablington house and gardens. there is a minimum number of 30 persons needed which is why we have combined the groups. I do not have full details but as soon as Christine confirms with the hosts I will let you know.
JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER are works in progress!! as soon as I have arranged things I will let you know.
November will be are usual social and quiz in the town hall. This is a popular event enjoyed by those who attend.
