We recently visited the Bio Detection Dogs Centre where dogs are trained to detect even the tiniest smells linked to diseases like cancer, Parkinson's , epilepsy and bacterial infections.
This form of medical screening is faster, cheaper and less invasive than many current tests. It can often identify a problem at its earliest stage, thus increasing successful treatment and improving long term prospects of recovery.
Medical Alert Assistance Dogs are also trained here. Using the power of their noses they can detect minor changes in the body chemistry of their human partners, which gives early warning of impending problems. This enables people to take preventive medicine , reduces ambulance call-outs and hospital stays.
How amazing is that ! To see the bond between humans and their dogs was truly inspirational. This was the best visit I have been on in a long time. Maxine
