Walk on 20th June 2017 – Sherborne

It is not often that a walk has to be cancelled because of hot weather. The OW scheduled for today was cancelled, as it would have been irresponsible to walk 6.4 miles in the intense heat.   Mike, suggested we walk at Sherborne instead as there is a lot of shade from trees. So 10 members left Carterton at 0930 and drove to Ewe Pen barn on the Sherborne estate. We did the long walk, which is approximately 3.5 miles. Part way round the walk we stopped for refreshments     at the village shop/café. We were joined by two large dogs, I think they were Doberman’s. We usually do this walk in February to see the snowdrops. The pathway was nice and clear but all around it was quite overgrown. We saw a herd of cows sheltering under the trees and a sculpture of a dragon fly in the woods. By the time we arrived back at our cars, even with the shade, we said we were so pleased that we hadn’t tried to walk the scheduled walk. The next long walk will be on 18th July when we plan to resume the OW walk, Waterperry to Tetsworth.  Pam
