Long Walk, Alvescot 5-mile circular on 16th June 2026

11 of us drove to Alvescot and parked up in the Church car park. Here we met Hazel and were then ready to start the walk.

The terrain was quite hazardous with lots of tree roots and there were many stiles.

The terrain was flat and there 4 huge meadows filled with wildflowers of many different kinds. These attracted a flutter/kaleidoscope of butterflies.  The one that attracted our attention was black and white, this was a marbled white. This part of the walk was quite slow as photographs and discussions took place. Partway round the walk was Broadwell Church, and then footpath goes right through the middle of a private garden. A little way further brought us to a hay barn and implement storage area. This is where we sat and had a drink, and a convenience stop.  The remainder of the walk was a on solid lane which was part of the old railway line.  By the time we reached our cars it was getting very warm, and most were beginning to feel the heat. It was a great walk in great company. We even had two dogs stop to say hello and our fly past circled over us several times.

Thank you, car drivers, we appreciate you. Pam
