Short Walk on 9th June 2026 – Asthall Leigh

It was a glorious morning when we set off for Asthall Leigh.  The walk was undulating in places with some road walking.  It was a delightful walk with a lovely tranquil landscape with the babbling sound of the river Windrush. It lifted our spirits and brightened our day. We walked past RMJ at Worsham (they make traffic cones). There were a herd of horses/ponies in the field next to the bridge over the river who came to say hello.  Arriving back at Asthall we walked the loop round the village. The inn now has new owners and is called the 3 Horseshoes. The Church is 12th century and is named St Nicholas. Asthall Manor is a gabled Jacobean Cotswold manor house; the gate pillars are famously topped with striking, contemporary stone finials. The property was once owned by the Mitford family. After the walk we made our way back to Carterton where we had our coffee break.

Thank you to the car drivers.  Pam
